Formed in December of 2003, the Commission for Culture, Arts & Heritage was established to serve as the advisory group to the Canton Board of Trustees regarding the enhancement of the arts in the community. In supporting all forms of art, the Commission has made it their mission to encourage the development of arts and serve as advocates for the arts and arts education.
As a means of supporting these objectives, the Partnership for the Arts and Humanities was formed. As a non-profit 501(c)(3), it serves in cooperation with the Commission and shares its vision to ensure high quality cultural arts that are accessible to and sustained by the Greater Canton community.
Until most recently, the Partnership’s main focus was to help raise funds to support the construction of the Village Theater. The Theater, owned and operated by Canton Township, celebrated its grand opening in the fall of 2003. Since then, Canton Township and the Partnership continue to work together. The Township operates the facility on a daily basis and the Partnership continues to solicit funds through a variety of giving options to support the growth and development of cultural arts at the Theater and in the Canton Community.
